Automatic lubrication pump unit or motorized lubrication pump unit consists of an electrically driven pump unit, filter, level switch or float switch, oil filler, buzzer, pressure switch, acrylic or metal reservoir, lubricant oil indicator, lubrication timer and programmed controller unit.

Lubrication timer is required to turn ON and OFF the pump to lubricate the lubrication points intermittently at a specific interval. Level switch or float switch uses to detect the lubricant oil level and turn ON the buzzer when the lubricant oil level is lower than the required minimum level. The lubricant oil indicator is used to indicate and visualize the minimum lubricant oil level in the reservoir.

All the important parts on the lubrication pump unit will be integrated and connected to the programmed controller on the pump unit itself or connected directly to the CNC machine controller to control and monitor the lubricant oil level in the oil reservoir and to control the lubrication cycle.

Nowadays, the automatic lubrication pump units are widely used in centralized lubrication system for CNC machines center (such as CNC milling center and CNC lathe center) to deliver the specific amount of lubricant oil to the lubrication points at a specific interval.

CNC Machine Lubrication Program

A periodic CNC machine lubrication program has a significant impact on the CNC machine performance and reliability. It is essential that the CNC machine moving parts should be correctly and adequately lubricated. Failure to practice a proper CNC machine lubrication program at a correct intervals with a proper amount and viscosity of lubricant oil especially on the moving parts will drastically increase the machine maintenance and repairing cost, increase the unscheduled downtime, increase the production cost and reduce the CNC machine lifetime performance. The CNC machine lubricating program is the first defense against premature wear or damage to the machine.

The CNC machine lubrication program is the responsible of preventive maintenance staffs. They have to design a solid preventive maintenance program especially the machine lubricating program on the moving parts such as spindle, linear guides and ballscrews. Base on my experienced, the machinists or the machine operators are part of the first defense system against chronic CNC machine failure because they have the capabilities to monitor the lubricant oil level especially during ordinary machine operation then, they should be part of the CNC machine preventive maintenance team.

Nowadays, most of the CNC machines in the market are equipped with the centralized lubrication system to deliver the lubricant oil to the lubrication points on the CNC machine whether using hand operated oil pump (manual lubrication pump) or motorized oil pump (automatic lubrication pump). Basically, most of the centralized manual lubrication pumps are used on the small CNC machines and most of the centralized automatic lubrication pump are used by bigger CNC machine or multiple axises CNC machine. Centralized automatic lubrication pump uses programmable timer to deliver precise amount of lubricant oil to the lubrication points. The centralized lubricating system drastically reduce the preventive maintenance cost. However, centralized manual lubrication pump still need comprehensive machine lubricating schedule. An efficient CNC machine lubricating program is the essential tool to keep the CNC machine running smoothly.
